ABOUT

Many people on islands live on severely degraded land. This state of land directly affects their living standards, making it very difficult to grow food, collect firewood, or make a living off the land. Degraded land also contributes to global warming — when trees are gone, they can no longer remove carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas) from the atmosphere

Trees for the Future (TREES) is a grassroots program that helps people living on degraded land to improve their lives through environmentally sound development projects. Through our network of technicians, volunteers, and community leaders, we sponsor farmer’s seminars, workshops and trainings and provide technical knowledge on agroforestry, reforestation, and sustainable development, along with planting materials. We help communities return their land to sustainable production.

We are training farmers in agroforestry, fruit tree production, reforestation, and vegetable production and encourage all community members to help prevent soil erosion by practicing these techniques on the affected parts of their plots and by participating in communal environmental conservation days. Usually the cost for a workshop (one day) is around 487 USD.

We donate Foundation’s funds for the farmer’s purchase of seeds and seedlings and help with events as well as editing and translating of books and manuals.  We help increase public awareness by talking with schools and other groups. Volunteers are also needed to encourage communities, churches, and civil groups to support tree planting projects. Due to our extensive networking with technicians, volunteers, and community leaders worldwide, your donation of only 0.49 USD, will already help to plant a tree!
