SAMUEL OCHIENG ODOYO


Samuel was born on 30th December 1965 to the late Stanislaus Odoyo Obambo and Margaret Adhiambo Odoyo in Mfangano Island, Homa Bay County, Kenya. He is the third born in a family of ten siblings, five boys and five girls.


He started going to school in 1973 at Sena Primary School, then joined Tonga Secondary School in 1980.
He joined Kericho Teachers Training College In 1988 While at Kericho, he registered with Royal Schools of Music as a private candidate and achieved a standard pass of grade five.


He was registered with the Kenya teacher’s service commission on 24th February 1989 and posted to teach at Wakula Primary School, in Mfangano Island on 1st May 1989
He was appointed a deputy head Teacher on 4th April 1993.


He joined a school-based program at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) to train in special needs education (SNE) inclusive course, which he successfully completed on 14th Oct. 2008, and was appointed as a special needs teacher for the visually impaired children on 7th. Dec. 2009, at the same time, appointed as a headteacher by the Kenya Teachers Service Commission and transferred from Wamai Primary School to Kagungu primary School.


His successful efforts have been felt, realized and appreciated by both the Local community and government institutions in the following capacities:-
1) Kenya Literature Bureau during his facilitation in a seminar at Usare Primary school on the challenges of teaching science in primary schools.
2) The Mfangano Division Education office, for registering the highest enrolment of girls for the year 2013 following the frequent dropout of schoolgirls in most schools during that time.
3) The Kenya Teachers Service Commission which has upgraded him to ordinary diploma teacher one
4) Moi Girls High School – Sindo which awarded him a Certificate of participation for effective service to the school in the period 2014--2015 as a very committed and active P.T.A. executive
5) The Homa Bay County Primary Schools Drama Committee, which awarded him the certificate of participation for meritorious performance in the Homa bay county drama festival held at Homa Bay High School.
6) The Mfangano Education Fund Committee and members of the fund, that awarded him a certificate of merit on the excellence of commitment as the most powerful and dedicated chairman of Mfangano Education Fund, since 05/11/2015.


Samuel and his committee of both the Sagrema Foundation and Mfangano education fund – CBOs, are promising to take the scholars being funded, institutions of learning and registered groups being supported to greater heights with the help of Willing Sons and daughters of Mfangano and their able Volunteers. They are looking forward to funding many more scholars, support individuals and registered groups to bring light to these isolated islands in Kenya and beyond, hence requesting donors, Well-wishers, other organizations and volunteers to join the programs and assist in building brains and saving lives.
